Since 1989, the Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) has been the voice for more than 10,000 retired teachers, serving their interests and advocating for their welfare. On top of representing their members’ needs, they also keep them connected with their community and engaged through retirement.
RTAM needed a dynamic website to better serve its audience: primarily older adults of retirement age. With an outdated design, clunky content management system and disorganized content, the existing site fell short of delivering value to members. It was time for an intuitive site that provided information and resources in an accessible way, along with a positive online experience tailored to the needs of its users.
Our team dedicated extensive time and effort to truly understand RTAM members’ unique information needs. Not only did we develop a robust content strategy to better highlight the association’s resources and news, but we also designed a fresh, easy-to-navigate site that allows for improved communication, operations and overall service to members—setting RTAM up for long-term success.
We wanted the web design to strike the perfect balance: clean and professional, but with a touch of personality that pays homage to its member base—retired teachers. Subtle accents, like details from a piece of looseleaf paper, add character without overwhelming the design. Colour blocking and icons further streamline the layout, making key information easy to spot at a glance. The result is a site that feels polished and approachable to all visitors.
The RTAM website serves as a vital information hub for its members and we recognized the importance of creating a platform tailored to the association’s unique needs. By developing bespoke solutions like custom-built modules for key sections, we delivered a site that not only meets RTAM’s requirements but also enhances the user experience.
A streamlined news module that keeps visitors informed and makes updates effortless for staff
A clear, intuitive module that outlines often-complex benefits information in a more digestible way
Structured tools for effortless content management and accessible information
When we analyzed the existing RTAM site, it was clear the content was outdated, repetitive and even confusing in spots—falling short of the association’s goals. Our team crafted a detailed content strategy and developed clear, concise copy to streamline information and eliminate redundancies across pages.
At the same time we prepared to launch the new website, RTAM was transitioning to a new internal member portal on GrowthZone — a major upgrade designed to enhance how members access many of their resources. This presented a unique challenge: integrating links to the portal seamlessly within the external site’s content to create a cohesive user experience and ensure members can easily differentiate between the two platforms.
